Have You Heard of Banaba for Diabetes and Weight Loss?
Diabetes type II should be a concern of everyone, since it is caused by poor diet. The creation of processed food, which contains simple carbohydrates, has created an explosion of people developing diabetes. Simple carbohydrates when eaten are absorbed quickly into your blood stream from your intestines creating a need for more insulin to bring down your blood sugar level.
Simple carbohydrates are sugar when they enter your blood. Eating processed foods increases your blood sugar level, which makes your pancreas work harder by having to release more insulin more frequently. It is this overworking of the pancreas that leads to diabetes and your cells becoming resistant to insulin activity.
This is why it is recommended that you eat vegetables with your lunch and dinner when you are eating processed foods. When you eat a sandwich make sure it has plenty of green lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables that you like. What the vegetables do is provide fiber and fiber holds on to the simple carbohydrate and decreases their speed by which they move into your blood.
Here is an herbal leaf found in the Philippines, India, Malaysia, and Australia used for 1000’s of years, that has been found to lower your blood sugar levels, like insulin does. It is available on the internet by the name Banaba. Its active ingredient is Corosolic Acid and has been found to have no side effect in Japanese clinical studies. In studies done in 2001 by Edison Biotechnology Institute, Athens, Ohio, they found the whole leaf extract had other chemicals other than corosolic acid – lagerstroemin and tannins - that were capable of lowering blood sugar and of fighting obesity.
Because Banaba helps to handle blood sugar levels, it has been found effective in weight loss products creating weight loss of about 2-4 lbs per month. It helps to curb appetite and also found to support liver function. Banaba is popular in Japan as a weight loss ingredient and is also found in many products in the USA. It is useful for body builders looking to improve body composition and for over all health.
Banaba leafs are also available in tea bags. There is a company in California that sells Banaba tea bags of leaves that come from the Philippines.
Caution: If you are using drugs such as sulfonylureas - glyburide or glipizide – gymnena sylvestre, American ginseng, or other blood sugar lower medication, these medications may have to decreased when using Banaba. Check with your doctor when using Banaba and Medication.
The amount of Banaba that was found effective in clinical studies was 32 mg and 48 mg soft gel formulations. Hard capsules or hard gels were not as effective. The 32 mg showed an 11 % change and the 48 mg showed a 30 % decrease in glucose blood level. If you are taking any drugs for diabetes, check out Banaba in pure form or in formulations. But be sure to measure your blood sugar levels so that it does not get to low. If you are not taking drugs to maintain your sugar level and want to lose weight or improve your health, then Banaba can be a choice to start your New Year out with your weight loss resolution.
